The clothing collection for Spring 2009 has a neat story:

Over the winter I spent quite a bit of time at my 88-year-old grandmother’s house. She was a seamstress for years and had a lot of fabric in her house, some of which she was kind enough to share with me. I shipped it all to my studio and got down to work.

This season, the clothes were inspired by the fabric and, of course, my grandma.

Since there is a limited amount of some of the fabrics in this collection, there is also a limited number of certain garments, which makes them extra-special and unique.

So these two guys we know were driving up a mountain out here in BC to do some snowboarding and had the best conversation ever:

The first guy starts by asking if the other has any of the Oona unders for men, and the second guy answers yes.

The first guy then asks if the other is wearing them right now, and the second guy answers yes again.

Then, guy one asks which ones and he’s told the Mexican wrestler print. Well, wouldn’t you know it, so was he.

As the nicer weather is trickling in, so are our clothes into stores.

We’ve also got some fun photos of women’s unders, including three new prints.

Frilly Knickers. These ones are based on our standard pant so there’s still full seat coverage, but they’re cut a little higher on the sides and have an extra flirt factor with some frilly elastic.

Oona Clothing Company is very concerned about waste and we use as much of our fabric as we can while cutting our garments; but we knew there had to be a way to use even more.

So, we’ve decided to make “FRANKENPANTS”.

Based on the same comfortable underpant patterns we always use, we are piecing together our smaller bits of fabric to prevent more from going to the landfill.

Each pair is completely unique and fun and environmentally conscious!

We want to thank everyone so much for such a great Culture Crawl this year. About 1000 people came through the studio over the weekend, including some of our very favourite friends and some  new ones- amazing!

We are participating in the 11th annual Eastside Culture Crawl in Vancouver next weekend- November 16th, 17th and 18th and it’s gonna be huge!

      PILES AND PILES OF UNDERPANTS!

We’ve been hard at work and there are tons of men’s, women’s and children’s underpants for sale, as well as women’s clothing. Look out for some other fun stuff too.

There are fifteen other artists in our building who will be opening their doors so there will be plenty to check out. We are in Studio #14 at the William Clark Studios located at 1310 William St. (at Clark) in Vancouver.

The Crawl hours are:            Friday, November 16th          5-10

                                          Saturday, November 17th      11-6

                                          Sunday, November 18th         11-6

We’d love to see you there and bring your friends. It’ll be a great opportunity to see what local artists do and where they do it. Also, you can do your holiday shopping all in one weekend- how fantastic!

We are going to be on TV twice in the next week!

THE EXPRESS 

The first spot will be on The Express. They will be coming to our studio as part of a feature on the Eastside Culture Crawl. You will get a preview of what we’ve been working on for the Crawl weekend.

The segment will air on Vancouver’s Shaw Channel, cable 4  on Wednesday, November 14th at 6pm and 10:30 pm. In case you miss it, there will be extra showings on Thursday, November 15th and Sunday, November 18th.

URBAN RUSH

A band called Orchid Highway will be on Urban Rush on Shaw Cable 4 in Vancouver on Thursday, November 15th and, since they’re good friends of the Crawl, have generously offered to help showcase some participating artists to show viewers the diversity of what they will see on the Culture Crawl weekend. We were very lucky to have been asked to send some of our stuff along to the studio and can’t wait to see it on the air!
